Faulkner is one of my favorites.

  2. References to Joyce or references BY Joyce?

If it's the latter, I caught one in the first chapter, where Buck Mulligan says "Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself."

It's a reference to section 51 of Walt Whitman's Leaves Of Grass:

Listener up there! what have you to confide to me?
Look in my face while I snuff the sidle of evening,
(Talk honestly, no one else hears you, and I stay only a minute longer.)

    Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

  3. Been meaning to mention the Simpsons Episode, where they run out of fun things to do in Ireland and attend Bloomsday, In the Name of the Grandfather since it ran but it should be coming up soon in the reruns for this season (2009.)
